I had an interesting issue today when I went to Kroger. I was buying Suave Deodorants for $1.06 ea. I wanted to buy 36 of them. I have coupons for .50/1 which doubles to $1 so they will cost me .06ea. Here is the catch, the coupon says "4 per visit". Other stores say I can just check out multiple times with 4 in each transaction. One store made me walk outside after each 4 to say it was a new visit. Now, the one I went to tonight says no matter what I can only buy 4. Even if I left the store and came back later in the day I am not allowed to buy any more than 4. He chalked this up to manager discretion. In my eyes this is misusing manager discretion. There is no where in Kroger policy that says "I am only allowed to go to their store one time a day". If I was to go to the store with cash and buy 20 and then come back and buy 20 more the store would have NO problem with this. So basically, I feel I am being discriminated against because I use coupons. How can a store claim to accept coupons BUT when you try and use them according to THEIR policy they say NO using manager discretion as the reason behind their decision.
Then comes the second issue. The manager told me he was not gonna let me clear off the shelves. BUT this store will not special order?!?! You left me no option but to clear the shelf!!! BUT if I was to once again clear the shelf paying with cash, I am allowed to do this, just not if I use coupons. Once again, .
So here is the third issue. My husband called and talked to him after the fact and he said, even if a coupon says 4 per TRANSACTION, he will not let me do multiple transactions. SERIOUSLY? If I was paying cash, check, credit card, WIC, or food stamps I am allowed to separate my order as many times as I like. AND I have before BUT if your using coupons, he says he will not allow multiple transactions?!?!
If Kroger does not want to accept coupons, they should NOT promote themselves as a store that accepts coupons. This is false advertisement.
I eventually just went to another store and got everything I needed with no hassle but here is the issue. Discrimination is illegal. No matter what kind of discrimination. IT"S ILLEGAL. It's a crime. As a matter of fact, after looking on the internet, it is being classified as "Coupon Discrimination" saying they are infringing on our to be treated the "same" as other shoppers/people. You are not legally allowed to be a business and say one set of people can have one privilege while another cannot. And this is exactly what Kroger is doing. Cash shoppers are being allowed to do things NOT allowed by couponers.

Word to Kroger:
THIS IS DISCRIMINATION AND THIS IS ILLEGAL. EVERYONE IS EQUAL. NO MATTER WHAT FORM OF PAYMENT THEY USE. THINK ABOUT THIS BEFORE YOU GET A FEW LAW SUITS ON YOUR HANDS.
What do YOU guys think?????????
You cannot use your coupon multiple times in a transaction BUT if I were a shop lifter that I could get as many as I wanted....just for thought at least with coupons they are getting paid. I Love You Margaret!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe reason Kroger will favor shoppers that pay cash is because they're the ones actually buying the item.
ReplyDeleteNot the self important coupon ladies who want to buy 50 deodorants.
This is a policy at ALL Kroger stores.
When all the items are taken by a couponer, this leaves no items for the customer that will actually buy the item, things people actually want or need and have money to PAY for it.
Kroger is a business, and extreme couponing is fraud.
Fraud will kill a business.
Commerce will help it thrive.
The customers helping the business will be favored more by company than the people who use coupons, get over it.
Don't like it, don't shop at Kroger, they don't lose money if you don't use your coupons, so you can complain all you want and say you're never coming back, because they don't care, they'll sell the items you want to people who will rightfully buy them.
You want to donate to charity, ACTUALLY DONATE OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET, DO NOT abuse a system like coupons that is in place to help you save here and there.
Kroger does not have to do business with you and they reserve the right to refuse service to you, they lose no money when you stop couponing at their store.
The difference between "cash, check, credit card, WIC, or food stamps" and your coupons is that these are all forms of tender, coupons are just coupons, not money.
WIC and Foodstamps are actual programs that help people get what they need, FOOD, not deodorant.
Do not put your stupid coupons on the same level as these great programs that actually help people.
Familiarize yourself with a store's coupon policy before you go on an angry rant on the internet about how you're going to sue it for discrimination.
There was no crime here, only a woman who is angry because she was ignorant of a store's policy.
@anonymous....LOL I really needed a joke today thanks for your ummm should we call it "insight" for a lack of better words. I could have just deleted this but I thought it important to show how simple minded people can be. But I am more than willing to address every incorrect statement you made in this post. First, there is nothing in ANY coupon policy at ANY store that says they prefer cash over coupons or any other form of payment. Oh yea, lets go ahead and clear that statement up too. Coupons ARE a form of currency. It is MONEY paid by the manufacturer for a product AKA currency. The money is not coming directly from me but from the manufacturer just like when paying with food stamps or WIC its not coming directly straight from the buyer BUT from the government. I do understand what you say about none being left for others who need them but that's the point of couponing, TO GIVE TO THOSE IN NEED!!! Granted, I do not typically clear the shelves I typically call in my order in advance out of courtesy for the other shoppers. This store will NOT special order. After speaking with the head manager she understood why I cleared the shelf and was ok with it in this case. As for "Extreme couponing" is fraud?!?! Seriously? LOL its being smart enough to do a little math before you go shopping to get a good or great deal. What? You never used a single coupon? Never bought something because it was on sale?!?! Same thing. Just we are wise enough to do it every time we go shopping not just when we feel the urge to save a buck. Read your coupons. The store gets the amount of the coupon PLUS .08cents so in turn they are making more money with MY coupons than with YOUR cash. As for never shopping at Kroger, I never said that. I spoke with the manager. She agreed with everything I had complained about and practically begged not to lose my business because COUPONING IS SELLING ITEMS OFF THEIR SHELVES. They do not care about where the money is coming from as long as they get it. As for me being ignorant...well....who is smart enough to save money....think about it. I go shopping and get the same stuff for free that you pay and arm and a leg for. And here is my final note. Yes, I donate. More than 1/2 of what I get goes to charity. If you don't like that well I don't care. Why help 1 family when I can help 50. At one point and time, I was the one in the welfare line, Im not anymore thanks to coupons. People like YOU no longer have to pay extra taxes to support my family. I do it myself. You are right, food stamps are there to help people get food. But, not everyone can get these benefits. My grandma who was 72 yrs old. Could not work and was given $9 a month for food stamps. So yea, I help people like her. People who our society have forgotten about. But even more than food, you need deodorant don't you? Don't you bathe? Well, just because someone is poor doesn't mean they shouldn't have that right also. If you don't like that I coupon, then don't read my posts. I will continue couponing, I will continue to help others. I just pray one day YOUR not the one I am having to help. God Bless.
